La Rosa del Agua is a beautifully restored stone and oak house with slate roofs typical of the Bierzo region of Leon and located directly on El Camino de Santiago. For 150 years this historic dwelling was the first sign of civilization and hospitality coming down the mountain from the Cruz de Ferro welcoming tired hungry 18th and 19th centuryPilgrims on their way to Santiago.
Legend has it that some of the stones from the El Bierzo mountain range were quarried to build the foundation of the Cathedral in Santiago. Proof of La Rosa del Aguas´s history is evidenced by its delicately restored log burning stone oven that in its day baked bread for its inhabitants as well as the village of El Acebo de San Miguel. The 6 cm thick oak exterior doors on each floor and its iron hardware also date back to the 1800s.
