Since 2019, we are the new Innkeepers of La Rose del Agua. We are Pilgrims from different nationalities, who have walked many kilometers and have lived the experience and philosophy that is the “Camino”. And now we are living the spirit of the Camino daily by providing our pilgrim/ guests with a comfortable room and a fresh breakfast in a 150 year old mountain rural home in the tiny village of El Acebo in the heart of El Bierzo region of Leon and directly on the French Camino. Our heartfelt mission statement “When you’re here you’re home” is what we hope to impart to each and every one of our guests.
La Rosa del Agua is located on the Camino de Santiago, declared a World Heritage Site.
Our Café Bar is open early at 7:00 am ready to provide our overnight guest with a full continental breakfast that includes fresh orange juice and organic free trade tea or coffee to start their day before they move on.
For our pilgrims passing through mid morning or during lunch hours, we offer a variety of vegetarian and meat items such as, Spanish tortillas, hot and cold sandwiches, cool vegetable and fruit salads, hamburgers with grilled onions, pasta and more. We can serve these dishes in our dining room or on our large sun drenched terrace in the cool spring and fully shaded in the warm summer with an unparalleled view of the mountains. It’s a relaxing place to have cold beer or sample one of our Mencía wines from local award winning wineries and vineyards.
One can explore several hike and bike trails and discover nearby streams, rivers and waterfalls.
Other points of interest include a short distance hike to the mystical and iconic Cruz de Ferro, sitting at approximately 1,500 m elevation it’s the highest point within Spain on the French Camino.
La Forja of Compludo is a National Monument and located in the next-door village of Compludo. La Forja houses a working mallet and hydraulic wheel displaying an engineering marvel from medieval times that provides the necessary air pressure to create the super high heat to forge metal.
Less than an hour’s drive away you can visit the spectacular geography of Las Médulas, a UNESCO world heritage site where remains of pre-Roman gold mines can be explored.
